Here is our Swatch for the 20th:

Materials:

1 Skein cotton or any other type yarn in #4 category (cotton if you want to use as coaster)

#7 US Needles

Cast On:

This design is a multiple of 6 stitches + the border (18 + 4 = 22)

Cast on 22 for this swatch

Notes: B = Border Stitches

SSK = Slip 1, Slip 1, Knit 2 together

Border:

Rows 1-2: Knit Across

Pattern:

Row 1: Knit across.

Row 2: B K2, P18, B K2.

Row 3: (RS) B K2, *K1, YO, SSK; Rep from *, end B K2.

Row 4: (WS) B K2, P18, B K2.

Row 5: B K2, *K2, YO, SSK, K2; Rep from *, end B K2.

Row 6: B K2, P18, B K2.

Row 7: B K2, *K3, YO, SSK, K1; Rep from *, end B K2

Row 8: B K2, P18, B K2.

Repeat rows 3-8 for pattern. I repeat the 6 row set 4 more times and repeated rows 3-6 one more time.

Then:

Knit one row

K2, P18, K2

Border:

Rows 1-2: Knit across

Bind off,

Weave in ends.

** This stitch would be great for Baby Clothes or summer cardigan. Something you want with a little air. **

Dishcloth Instructions:

You use the same instructions as for the swatch but add more border stitches and work till the item is the length you want. You can have 30 pattern sts. + 8 Border sts. = 38 stitches.

June 5th 2016 Swatch

June 5^th 2016 Swatch – Oblique Rib Swatch

Materials:

1 skein of Cotton yarn

US #6 Knitting Needles

Cast on: Multiple of 4 stitches + border stitches

This swatch was calculated as 16 + 4 = 20

Note: B means Border Stitches

Border:

Rows 1-2: Knit across row.

Pattern:

Row 1: (RS) B K2, *K2, P2; repeat from * to end, B K2.

Row 2: (WS) B K2, K1, *P2, K2; repeat from * to last 5 stitches: P2, K1, B K2.

Row 3: B K2, *P2, K2; repeat from * to end, B K2.

Row 4: B K2, P1, *K2, P2; repeat from * to last 5 stitches: K2, P1, B K2.

Repeat the above 4 rows till desired length. I repeated the set 7 more times)

Border:

Rows 1-2: Knit across row.

Bind off, weave in ends.

To convert to a dishcloth:

Just follow the swatch instructions only replace the “border” stitches with K4 instead of K2. Everything else would remain the same, you can cast on as many stitches as you would like depending on how large a cloth you like. You can use the “Multiple” number to do 4 x 6 = 24 or 4 x 8 = 32 or 4 x 10 = 40. Just remember to add border stitches. You can add 6 (3 for each side) or you can add 8 (4 for each side).

This pattern would be a great kitchen set; a dishcloth, place mat and pot holder. It would also be a good table runner.

Border:

Rows 1-2: Knit Across

Pattern:

Row 1: B K2, *K5, (P1, K1) x2, P1; Rep from* end with B K2

Row 2: B K2, (P1, K1) x 3, *P5, (K1, P1) x 2, K1; Rep from * to last 6: P4, B K2.

Row 3: B K2, K3, *(P1, K1) x2, P1, K5; Rep from * to last 9: (P1, K1) x2, P1, K2, B K2.

Row 4: B K2, P3, *(K1, P1) x2, K1, P5; rep from * to last 9: (K1, P1) x2, K1, P2, B K2.

Row 5: B K2, (K1, P1) x3, *K5, (P1, K1) x2, P1; rep from * to last 6: K4, B K2.

April 20th 2016 Swatch - April Showers

April 20^th Swatch – April Showers Lace Eyelet Swatch

Materials: 1 skein cotton yarn (I used Sugar N Cream Pastel Print)

Needle: US #6 Knitting needles

This swatch was done using staggered lace eyelets, most patterns call for a “lined up” lace eyelets. Staggering looks more like rain so I used that method.

The original stitch calls for a multiple of 3 + 2 stitches but if you use the staggered eyelets it may come out different.

Note: “B” means = Border

Cast on: 21 stitches

Border:

Rows 1-2: Knit across row.

Pattern:

Row 1: Knit Across Row.

Row 2: K2, P17, K2.

Row 3: Knit Across Row.

Row 4: K2, P17, K2.

Row 5: (RS) BK2, K2, *YO K2Tog, K4; Repeat from *; end YO K2Tog, K1, BK2.

Row 6: K2, P17, K2.

Row 7: Knit Across Row.

Row 8: K2, P17, K2

Row 9: BK2, YO K2Tog, K3, YO K2Tog, K4, YO K2Tog, K2, YO K2Tog, BK2.

Row 10: K2, P17, K2.

Row 11: Knit Across Row.

Row 12: K2, P17, K2.

Repeat rows 5-12 for pattern.

I repeated rows 5-12 2 more times and repeated rows 5 – 8 one (1) more time.

Border rows:

Rows 1 & 2: Knit across rows.

Bind off

Weave in Ends.

Notes:

If you do not want staggered rows of eyelets, you can use the pattern at the bottom of the page called “Eyelet Lace” for a cloth where the multiple of stitches are 3 + 2 and the eyelets are in line.

March 20^th 2016 Swatch – Blue Bellflower Lace

Level of Difficulty: Easy

Materials:

1 skein of Cotton Skein

#6 us Knitting Needle

Notes:

PSSO = Pass Slip Stitch Over

K2Tog = Knit 2 Together

Slip = Knitwise

YO = Yarn Over

YO for Purl Stitches = make sure you complete a circle around the needle when doing a YO for a purl stitch.

P2Tog = Purl 2 stitches together

I designed the border stitches separate from the pattern. Example, on some rows you may see K2, K1, or K2, K3. That means the border is 2 stitches and the remainder of the knit stitches that follow are part of the pattern.

Size: Multiple of 6 + 3 stitches

Cast On: (18 + 3=21 + 4 Border = 25

Cast on 25 stitches

Border:

Rows 1-2: Knit

Pattern:

Row 1: K2, P21, K2.

Row 2: Knit across.

Row 3: K2, P3, *K3, P3; Repeat from *, end K2.

Row 4: K2, K3, *P2Tog, YO, P1, K3; Repeat from *, end K2.

Row 5: K2, P3, *K3, P3; Repeat from *, end K2.

Row 6: K2, K3, *P1, YO, P2Tog, K3; Repeat from *, end K2

Row 7: K2, P3, *K3, P3; Repeat from *, end K2.

Row 8: K2, K1, K2Tog, (P1, Yo) x 2, P1, Sl 1, K2Tog, PSSO; Repeat from * (End last repeat with: SSK, K1…Instead of Sl1, K2Tog, PSSO) K2.

Row 10: K2, P1, YO, P2Tog, *K3, P1, YO, P2Tog; Repeat from *, end K2

Row 11: K2, K3, *P3, K3; Repeat from *, end K2.

Row 13: K2, K3, *P3, K3; Repeat from *, end K2.

Row 14: K2, P2, YO, P1, *Sl 1, K2Tog, PSSO, (P1, YO) x2, P1; Repeat from *, end Sl 1, K2Tog, PSSO, P1, YO, P2, K2.

Repeat rows 3-14 for pattern, I repeated the set 2 more times.

Finishing:

Next row: K2, P21, K2.

Bind off

Weave in ends.

***Don’t forget to complete the last yarn over in the Purl rows.***

To work a dishcloth, figure your desired size or use 6 X 4 = 24 + 3 = 27 + 8 border = 35).

Work the pattern as established using 4 stitches at the beginning and 4 stitches at the end for the border. Now you know why I left the border and pattern knit stitches separate. As an example row 12 would look like this:

Row 12: K4, P2Tog, YO, P1, *K3, P2Tog, YO, P1; Repeat from *, K4.

Row 13: K4, K3, *P3, K3; Repeat from *, end K4

March 5th Swatch - Eyelet Cable Swatch

This swatch is like a mock cable design. It isn't difficult for those who have never done cable stitches before.

Materials: 1 Skein Cotton Yarn, (I used Sugar and Cream Pastel Print)

#7 Knitting Needle

Size: Multi 5 + 2 For Swatch: 15 + 2= 17 + 4 Border = 21)

Notes: Sl1 = With yarn in back.

Slip = “slip sts” PW.

PSSO = Pass slip stitch and both knit stitches over.

Border:

Rows 1-2: Knit across

Pattern:

Row 1: (RS) K2, P2, *Sl 1, K2, PSSO, P2; Repeat from *, end K2.

Row 2: (WS) K4, *P1, YO, P1, K2; Repeat from *, end K2.

Row 3: K2, P2, *K3, P2; Repeat from *, end K2.

Row 4: K4, *P3, K2; Repeat from *, end K2

Repeat the above four rows till desired length is reached. I repeated the 4 row combination 5 times.
