Here is our last swatch of the month.

Level of Difficulty:  Easy

Materials: 1 skein of cotton yarn.
#6 US Knitting Needles

Notes:  B = border stitch of 2 knit stitch on each side.
YO = Yarn Over
K2Tog = Knit 2 stitches together

Left Crossover: Slip 2 stitches to double point needle & hold in front of work, K2 from left needle, then K2 stitches off double point needle.
Right Crossover:  Slip 2 stitches to double point needles & hold in back, K2 stitches from left needle, then K2 stitches off double point needle.

  
Cast on:      Multiple of 8 + 2 (16 +4Border=22)   Cast on 22 stitches
Border:
Row 1:        Knit across.
Row 2:        Knit across.

Pattern:
Row 1:        B2, K5, *YO, K2Tog, YO, K2Tog, K4; repeat from *, end last repeat with K1, B2.
Row 2:        B2, P18, B2.
Row 3:        B2, K5, *(YO, K2Tog) x2, K4; repeat from *, end last repeat with K1,B2.
Row 4:        B2, P18, B2.
Row 5:        B2, K1, Work left crossover, (YO, K2Tog) x2, repeat from *, end with K1, B2.
Row 6:        B2, P18, B2.
Row 7:        B2, K5, *(YO, K2Tog) x2, K4; repeat from *, end last rep with K1, B2.
Row 8:        B2, P18, B2.
Row 9:        B2, K1, *(YO, K2Tog) x2, K4; repeat from * end with K1, B2.
Row 10:      B2, P18, B2.
Row 11:      B2, K1, *(YO, K2Tog) x2, K4; repeat from *, end with K1, B2.
Row 12:      B2, P18, B2.
Row 13:      B2, K1, *(YO, K2Tog) x2, work right crossover; repeat from *, end with K1, B2.
Row 14:      B2, P18, B2.
Row 15:      B2, K1, *(YO, K2Tog) x2, K4; repeat from *, end with K1, B2.
Row 16:      B2, P18, B2.

Repeat rows 1-16 till desired length (I worked rows 1-16 one more time and rows 1-12 one more time.

Border:
Row 1:        Knit across
Row 2:        Knit across

Bind off and weave in ends.


You can make into a cloth by adding more stitches to cast on. You may want to increase the border stitches to 4 on each end and increasing the pattern stitches to 24 + 2 + 8 border = 34 stitches.

Here is our swatch for September 5th.  It is a stretchy stitch which would be good for garments.

Level of  Difficulty:  Easy

Materials: 1 skein of cotton yarn.
#6 US Knitting Needles

Notes:  B = border stitch of 2 knit stitch on each side.
K2Tog = Knit 2 Stitches Together
C.O.= Cast On = Start to knit next stitch, with completed stitch still on right needle, turn your needle to the right (twist), transfer stitch to left needle.   To watch this done go to:  www.knittinghelp.com


Cast on:      Multiple of 2 (22 which includes border sts.) Cast on 22 stitches
Border:
Row 1:        Knit across.
Row 2:        Knit across.

Pattern:
Row 1:        B2, *C.O. 1 (then Knit that stitch), K2Tog; work across row ending B2.
Work row 1 throughout. I repeated row 1 twenty times.

Border:
Row 1:        Knit across
Row 2:        Knit across

Work to desired length.


You can make into a cloth by adding more stitches to cast on. You may want to increase the border stitches to 4 on each end and increasing the pattern stitches to 30 + 8 border = 38 stitches.

#6 US Knitting Needles

Notes:  B = border stitch of 1 knit stitch on each side.
K2Tog = Knit 2 Stitches Together
SKP = Slip 1, Knit 1, Pass Slip Stitch Over
P2Tog tbl = Purl 2 stitches together through the back loop

YO = when you see a YO at the end of a repeat set, make sure you include it before starting another set.

Cast on:      Multiple of 12 + 2 (26+2=28) Cast on 28 stitches
Border:
Row 1:        Knit across.
Row 2:        Knit across.

Pattern:
Row 1:        (RS) Knit across.
Row 2:        (WS) B1, P26, B1
Row 3:        B1, K4, K2Tog, K1, YO, *K9, K2Tog, K1, YO; repeat from * to last 8 stitches:  K7, B1.
Row 4:        B1, P8, YO, P1, P2Tog, *P9, YO, P1, P2Tog; repeat from * to last 4 stitches: P3, B1.
Row 5:        B1, K2, *K2Tog, K1, YO, K9; repeat from *, B1.
Row 6:        B1, P10, YO, P1, P2Tog, *P9, YO, P1, P2Tog; repeat from * to last 2 stitches: P1, B1.
Row 7:        Knit across
Row 8:        B1, P26, B1.
Row 9:        B1, K7, YO, K1, SKP, *K9, YO, K1, SKP; repeat from * to last 5 stitches:  K4, B1.

Work to desired length, I repeated the 12 row set 1 more time & rows 1-8 an additional time. Bind off and weave in ends.


You can make into a cloth by adding more stitches to cast on. You may want to increase the border stitches to 3 on each end and increasing the pattern stitches to 36 + 6 border = 42 stitches.

WYIB = With yarn in back, WYIF = With yarn in front.
Sl 1 = On RS rows, slip stitch knit wise on WS rows, slip stitch purl wise.

Cast on:      Multiple of 4 + 3 (16 + 3 = 19)
Border:
Row 1:        Knit across.
Row 2:        Knit across.
  
Pattern:
Row 1:        (RS) B2, K3, *Sl 1 (WYIB), K3; repeat from *, end B2
Row 2:        (WS) B2, K3, *Sl 1 (WYIF), K3; repeat from *, end B2.
Row 3:        B2, K1, *Sl 1 (WYIB), K3; repeat from *, end last 4 sts: Sl 1, (WYIB), K1, B2.
Row 4:        B2, K1, *Sl 1 (WYIF), K3; repeat from *, end last 4 sts: Sl 1 (WYIF), K1, B2.
Border:
Row 1:        Knit across
Row 2:        Knit across

Work to desired length, I repeated the 4 row set 7 more times. Bind off and weave in ends.


You can make into a cloth by adding more stitches to cast on. You may want to increase the border stitches to 4 on each end and increasing the pattern stitches to 28 + 3 + 8 border pattern = 39.

Materials:  1 skein cotton yarn - #6 US Knitting Needle
Cast on:  Multiple 7 + 3 (14+3=17 + 4Border=21)  Cast on 21
Note: C4B: slip next 2 stitches on cable needle and hold at back of work. Knit next 2 stitches from left needle, then knit 2 stitches from cable needle.
Border:
Rows 1 & 2:        Knit across.

Pattern:
Row 1:       (RS) B2, P3, *K4, P3; repeat from *, end B2.
Row 2:       (WS) B2, K1, YO, K2Tog, *P4, K1, YO, K2Tog; repeat from *, end B2.
Row 3:       B2, P3, (YIB) *C4B, P3; repeat from * end B2.
Row 4:       B2, K1, YO, K2Tog, *P4, K1, YO, K2Tog; repeat from *, end B2.
Row 5:       B2, P3, *K4, P3; repeat from *, end K2.
Row 6:       B2, K1, YO, K2Tog, *P4, K1, YO, K2Tog; repeat from *, end B2.

Repeat above 6 rows till desired length.  I repeated the pattern 4 more times.

Border:

For a larger item such as a cloth, just add “10” stitches more to enlarge.  For a cloth, you could make it 30+7 = 37 + border 6 stitches = 43.
