Garter Lace Swatch

Materials:  1 skein of cotton yarn in a solid color.  #7 US Knitting Needles

Notes: YO = Yarn Over / K2Tog = Knit 2 stitches together

This design would make a great dishcloth or scarf pattern.  I am currently using it on a scarf.

Multiple of 10 + 1 stitches + border of 2 stitches)

Cast on 23 stitches

Border:

Knit 2 rows

Pattern:

Row 1:        Knit across

Row 2:        K4, K2Tog, YO, K1, YO, K2Tog, K5, K2Tog, YO, K1, YO, K2Tog, K4.

Row 3:        Knit across.

Row 4:        K3, K2Tog, YO, K3, YO, K2Tog, K3, K2Tog, YO, K3, YO, K2Tog, K3.

Row 5:        Knit across.

Row 6:        K2, *K2Tog, YO, K5, YO, K2Tog, K1; Repeat from * to end, K1.

Row 7:        Knit across.

Row 8:        K2, *YO, K2Tog, K5, K2Tog YO, K1; Repeat from * to end, K1.

Row 9:        Knit across

Row 10:      K3, YO, K2Tog, K3, K2Tog, YO, K3, YO, K2Tog, K3, K2Tog, YO, K3.

Row 11:      Knit across

Repeat above 12 rows 2 times, repeat rows 1 through 7 and then knit the border:

Garter Lace Dishcloth:

If you would like to use this design to make a cloth you can follow the below pattern, if you would like to start a scarf using this design then I would stick to the swatch using 23 stitches which is perfect for a scarf.

Cast on:      37 (Multiple of 10 + 1, 30 + 1 + 6 border = 37)

Border:

Knit 4 rows

Pattern:

Row 1:        Knit across

Row 2:        K6, *K2Tog, YO, K1, YO, K2Tog, K5; repeat from * to last 11 stitches: K2Tog, YO, K1, YO, K2Tog, K6.

January 5th Swatch - Sailor's Rib

Hi, here is our first swatch of the year.  It is called "Sailor's Rib".  It is an elongated design and would look great as a towel or table runner too.

This is a lace cloth. 

Note: This is a panel design and works well with something you are making that has length to it.  It is hard to photograph but has a heart like vine going up the middle.

K2Tog = Knit 2 together

SKP = Slip 1, Knit 1, Pass slip stitch over
The lace pattern is a multiple of 17. I added 3 border stitches on each side = 23

Vandyke Lace Cloth

We will work 2 panels down the middle and add border stitches.

Multiple of 17 stitches (17 x 2= 34 + 6 border = 40)
Cast on 40

Follow the above directions repeating between *‘s as directed. You will be repeating more times than in our swatch (double them).  These are general directions for this pattern.

 

 

November 5th 2015 Swatch - Box Stitch

My Internet was down yesterday which makes this a day late.  Anyway he is our swatch for the 5th:

Cast on:        Multiple of 4 + 2 stitches (16+2+4 Border stitches = 22)

Materials:

1 Skein Cotton Yarn

#6 US Needles

 

This is just a knit and purl pattern.  When completed it does look like little boxes.

One difference with this design I can tell you that if I were going to work up an item with this pattern, I would start with 2 border rows but would not add any border rows at the end of the item.  The reason I say  this is it makes a kind of gap and doesn’t appear well.  So if you are looking at advice and tips, you might want to remember that one.  If you enlarge the photo you will see what I mean,

I used rose pink for this pattern and it looks good in that color.  This is also one I think you could do with pastel variegated yarns.

Border Rows:

Rows 1-2:    Knit across

Pattern:

Row 1:          K4, *P2, K2*; Repeat between *’s  ending with K2.
Row 2:          K2, P2, *K2, P2*; Repeat between *’s ending with K2.
Row 3:          K2, P2, *K2, P2*; Repeat between *’s ending with K2.
Row 4:          K4, *P2, K2*; Repeat between *’s ending with K2.

Repeat the above 4 rows until desired length.   I would not add a border, just finish off with:

Bind Off, weave in ends. I completed 8 sets of the rows.

If you wanted to do a dishcloth I would cast on 32 +2 + 6 border stitches = 40

Row 1:           B3, K2 *P2, K2*; Repeat between *’s, B3

To finish tie the right and left sides together; you can choose to leave a bow or weave in the ends.

Now hang your Dishcloth Dress over the top of your dish soap container or dispenser so that it can catch the drips. .

I also use the Dishcloth Dress for my water bottle; I can put it over the neck of the bottle which makes it warmer for my hands when the water is too cold to hold and as a coaster so that I don’t leave water rings.
