June 20th 2015 Swatch "Faggoted Panel Swatch"

Here is our next Swatch.  It is called Faggoted Panel Swatch

Copyright Janet Nogle ©
Level of difficulty:

Materials:  1 Skein cotton yarn

#7 US  Needle

Cast on:  Multiple of 9 stitches on a stockinette background (I used 9 + 10 background + 4 border) = 23

Size: 5 ½ X 5 ½

This is a “panel” lace pattern.  Panel designs can be used for table runners, place mats or any other item that you want to show off a specific design pattern.

It would depend on what you were making on the number of stitches you might cast on.  If you wanted a cloth, you could try 36 stitches (3 Border, 4 Background, 9 Pattern, 4 Background, 9 pattern, 4 pattern, 3 border = 36)

June 5th Swatch - Lattice Stitch Swatch

Hi  All, here is our next Swatch.  Copyright by Janet Nogle.  Level of difficulty:  Easy

Materials:  1 Skein cotton yarn
#7 US  Needle
Size: 5 ¼ X 5 ½

This is multiple of 6 + 1 stitches plus border stitches
Our swatch was calculated like this:  18 + 1= 19 + 4 border = 23
This swatch is similar to my pattern called “The Best of Gems” in the knitting calendar for 2013. This is a diamond design and is very pretty.

If you are interested in making a dishcloth, you could use 37 + border stitches.  For a towel 49 stitches + border stitches.  This does make a great towel pattern.

This will be a Moss stitch border (K1, P1) on an uneven number of stitches.  This means you would start the row with a K1 and end the row with K1 and the next row, you would start with K1 and so on.  This pattern is for 2 stitches at each end for the border which means when doing the border you would start the row with K1, P1 and end the row with P1, K1.

I also gave instructions for a garter stitch border (knit every stitch) for those who do not want a moss stitch.

Note:              B = Border stitches

Border:
Row 1:            K1, P1 across OR Knit across row
Row 2:            K1, P1 across OR Knit across row

Row 3:            K1, P1, OR K2,   K1, *P1, K3, P1, K1*; repeat between *’s to end, B: P1, K1 OR K2.
Row 4:            K1, P1 OR K2,   K1, *P5, K1*; repeat between *’s to end, B: P1, K1 OR K2
